If you keep going back to the same places for answers, you’ll keep getting the same future.

We were standing at the edge of the earth. No landmarks. No reference points. No sense of direction other than the light.

Just space.

And it made me realize how much of our thinking comes from going back to the same places over and over again.

Earlier this week, I was talking to a friend I’ve known for over 20 years. And as we were catching up, something became really clear. For the past decade, she’s found herself in the same place again and again. Same kind of roles. Same types of opportunities. Going back to the same people, the same contacts, trying to create something new from a circle that already knows her in a very specific way.

And it makes sense. It’s familiar. It’s where the history is. It’s where things have worked before. But you could also feel it… nothing was really changing. Not because she wasn’t capable of more. But because nothing “new” was being introduced.

And I think a lot of us do this. Early in your career, everything is new. You’re learning fast, reacting, figuring things out as you go. That’s the advantage. You don’t need new perspectives because everything already is one.

But at a certain point, that flips. You’re no longer surrounded by newness. You’re surrounded by what you already know. And if you stay inside that same loop, same conversations, same thinking, same environments, you’ll keep arriving at the same answers.

That’s when things start to feel stuck. Not because you haven’t figured it out. But because you’re not seeing anything different.

And I don’t believe it’s about trying harder. It’s actually about bringing something new into the mix… a different conversation… a different perspective…. someone who sees things in a way you don’t.

And here’s the part that’s easy to miss; what feels obvious to you now… ISN’T obvious to them.

So it works both ways. You’re not just looking for new thinking. You’re also bringing decades of your own thinking into new spaces where it actually adds NEW impact.

And you know what? You might find that’s where things start to become clearer.
